初めまして!

IMG_0195

This blog was previously a place where letters I wrote home during my mission to Japan were published. During that time, I lived in several areas of Tohoku for about 16 months, where I began to learn the Japanese language, met some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met, and learned life lessons that I feel were essential for my adulthood.

The idea of returning to Japan began even before I left. This has happened a few times before (England at age 14 and Scotland at age 19, for example), but each feeling of kinship has been profound. I returned to England on a study abroad and hope to return to Scotland, but I think now is the perfect time to go back to Japan and spend more time soaking in its magic. I had several experiences while living there and after I returned that convinced me this was right. And while I have had trepidation about this trip as far as what the future may hold, I have always known somehow it was the right thing to do. That has been very comforting.

Which is why it pleases me to announce that I have been accepted into a teaching program that will allow me to live and work in Japan for an additional year. I’m excited to start this new phase of my life, during which I will learn and grow immensely…and hopefully master some kanji while I’m at it.

I honestly don’t know if I will use this blog or not, but since I already have a Japan-themed blog, I figured I might as well prime it for use once I leave (in July).

その時に〜
